Andrews has a comprehensive background in technical design, engineering, and education. With over 8 years of industry experience followed by 17 years as a college educator, Andrews possesses a deep understanding of the needs of designers, creators, and manufacturers. Before founding MP Additive, he established the private research company Lighthread, which focused on developing education-centric 3D printing technologies. With the development of MP 3D printing, Andrews shifted his focus to its refinement and development.

In addition to founding MP Additive, Andrews is continually expanding his knowledge and academic research. His current PhD dissertation focuses on exploring collaboration between educators and industry representatives to develop timely and applicable curricula for rapidly evolving fields such as additive manufacturing, robotics, and artificial intelligence. He also investigates innovative methods to provide students and educators with access to high-end research and manufacturing equipment, integrate real-world applications of this equipment into classrooms, and adapt commercial workflows to create safe and effective learning environments while preserving the integrity of industry processes.
