MP Additive was founded by J. Andrews, an educator, engineer, and researcher with nearly three decades of experience. MP Additive was born from his vision to remove the barriers that limit creativity and innovation in additive manufacturing. Andrews’ career spans more than 12 years in industry and research, along with 17 years as a college educator, giving him a deep understanding of both the professional and educational sides of technology development.
Before founding MP Additive, Andrews launched the independent research company Lighthread, which focused on creating education-centered 3D printing technologies. Building on that foundation, MP Additive now advances a new class of universal, safe, and scalable 3D printing systems designed to support both innovation and instruction.
Beyond product development, MP Additive and Andrews are committed to bridging education, research, and industry. His ongoing Ph.D. research explores how educators and manufacturers can co-develop modern curricula and standards, ensuring that students and professionals are prepared for the rapidly evolving fields of additive manufacturing, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
